The Day I Finally Gave Jesus His Job Back…and Stopped Trying to Fix Everything Myself

Ever catch yourself replaying conversations or running through every possible outcome of a problem—until your chest is tight and your brain is buzzing?

Yeah… me too.

Not long ago, I found myself spinning in my head over a misunderstanding with someone I love. Nothing catastrophic—just that sticky ache when something doesn’t sit right. I laid awake plotting how to fix it, replaying what I could’ve said differently, trying to predict how it might ripple out.

And then, in the middle of all that mental chaos, I had this gentle thought:

“What if Jesus could fix this better than you?”

So, like awkwardly handing over a messy package, I gave it to Him.

“Here, Jesus. You hold this. Help her heart. Help mine.”

And something incredible happened—I felt lighter.

Not because the situation magically resolved, but because for once, it wasn’t all on me to fix.

The real problem

I’ve always believed that after all I can do, God steps in to make up the difference.

But let’s be honest:

I’ve spent most of my life wondering if I’d truly done all I could do.

(And spoiler: my brain always decided there was still more.)

So I carried it all—shouldered every outcome, every person I love, every future problem that might never even happen. It just felt so heavy.

And deep down, I think I pictured Jesus waiting off to the side, ready to step in only once I’d finally run out of my own solutions and energy.

Like I needed to prove I’d given it every last bit before He’d help.

A better picture

Recently, I remembered a backpacking trip my husband and I took with some youth. One girl couldn’t carry her pack anymore. So we strung it over a big stick—my husband took one end, I took the other—and together we carried her burden the rest of the way.

And suddenly, I realized:

That’s how God wants to walk with me, with Jesus right beside me.

Not waiting for me to collapse so He can finally swoop in.

But shouldering it with me, step by step.

Even if you don’t feel worthy

If you’re anything like me, you might wonder, “Shouldn’t God spend His time walking with people who need Him more than I do?

But here’s what I’m slowly learning:

He delights in journeying with you.

Not because you’re the most desperate, but because you’re His.

You don’t have to collapse to earn His help.

He wants to carry this with you—right now—because you matter to Him. Fully. Completely. Already.

What if today was different?

What if you didn’t wait to hand it all over until you were out of ideas and energy?

What if, right now, you pictured Jesus smiling beside you, slipping under your burden, and whispering:

I’ve got this side. Let’s keep walking together.

It’s designed to help you shift from “I can fix this” to “Jesus, I’m giving You Your job back.”

Because it was never supposed to be all on you.

High five ✋
