10 Signs You're More Wired for Growth Than You Think (Part 1)

Here's something I've noticed about people who are wired for growth: they often don't recognize themselves as such. Because the things they do - the habits, the curiosity, the willingness to look inward - just feel normal. It's just how they're wired.

But it's not how everyone is wired. And that's worth noticing.

I started thinking about this recently and jotted down the first things that came to mind. Not an exhaustive list, just the ones that felt most true. There were enough that I split them into two posts, so here are the first five. See how many land for you.

1. You're endlessly curious about how the brain works, especially in relationships. Not just “isn't that interesting” curious. More like I need to understand why people do what they do curious. Why someone reacts the way they do. How two people can experience the same conversation completely differently. How your own patterns got wired in the first place. That kind of curiosity isn't small talk material, it's the engine of real growth.

2. You geek out on neuroscience like it's entertainment. You've read the books. You've listened to the podcasts. You find yourself genuinely excited when a finding confirms something you've experienced or blows up something you assumed. For you, learning how the brain works isn't homework - it's fascinating.

3. You're that person with a podcast in your ears doing yard work. Or cleaning the house. Or working out. Downtime isn't wasted time for you, it's learning time. You've found a way to feed your brain while your hands are busy and you wouldn't have it any other way.

4. You use personality frameworks as mirrors, not just fun quizzes. Enneagram. CliftonStrengths. Human Design. You're not just collecting results, you're using them to understand yourself more honestly. To see your patterns. To stop being surprised by yourself. To decide on purpose what to keep and what to say goodbye to. That's a very different relationship with self-knowledge than most people have.

5. You're coachable, in sports and in the game of life. Maybe you were an athlete who never thought you were “all that” and ate up every bit of feedback you could get because you just wanted to perform better. And you carried that into life. Not perfectly; let's be honest, most of us are more coachable from some people than others, but the posture is there. You're open. You're listening. You want to improve.

That's the first half of the list, and it's all about the love of learning. It's what gets you in the door.

But knowing why you do something and changing it are two very different things. Next time, I'll share the five signs that show what keeps you in the room when it gets hard. (Spoiler: it has a lot to do with doing uncomfortable things on purpose.)

Which of these five do you relate to? What does “wired for growth” look like in your world?
