How Being Wrong Set Me Free

Recently, I heard the phrase, “Truth will always bypass resistance,” and it stopped me in my tracks.

I’ve learned that truth doesn’t force itself on us—it simply moves where it’s welcomed. If we’re not ready to face it, it doesn’t disappear; it just waits for a softer moment, when we’re open enough to receive it.

Before I got certified as a life coach, I was listening to a podcast from one of my favorite coaches and began seeing parts of myself I hadn’t wanted to admit—like how self-righteous I could be. I thought I was just right. I had things figured out. My way was the best way.

But once I was able to see that truth about myself, it set me free. I realized that most of what I believed was right—for me. But that didn’t mean it was right for everyone else. That shift cracked something open in me. I became more curious, less rigid, and more at peace.

That’s what truth does—it sets us free. Not just by showing us what’s right, but by helping us see where we’ve been wrong—and realizing that’s not failure, it’s freedom.

Truth shows up in so many ways. Sometimes through a quiet nudge. Sometimes through discomfort. And if we resist it—if we distract, defend, or deny—it doesn’t argue. It just moves along, waiting for us to catch up.

When I notice myself reaching for food when I’m anxious, I can see it now: I’m trying to bypass truth. There’s something underneath I don’t want to face. But the truth doesn’t go away. It simply waits—until I’m willing to sit still and listen.

So maybe the question isn’t whether truth will come to us. It always does.

The question is—will we be open enough to receive it?

If you sense a truth trying to get your attention—but you’re not sure how to face it—I can help you uncover it with compassion and clarity.

We can sit together, quiet the noise, and make space for truth to land. If you’d like to talk, you can schedule a time with me here.

High five! ✋

In my Toastmasters meeting this morning, the speaker said this and I felt it went along with this blog very nicely: Leadership is a personal relationship with truth.
